What is Sandblasting?
Sandblasting, also known as abrasive blasting, is a process that involves propelling fine particles, often sand or other abrasive materials, at high velocity onto a surface to remove contaminants, scale, rust, or old coatings. It is a highly effective method for cleaning, smoothing, or preparing surfaces for powder coating. The abrasive material, propelled by compressed, impacts the targeted surface, stripping away unwanted layers and leaving a clean, roughened substrate. Sandblasting is widely used in industries such as manufacturing, construction, and automotive for tasks ranging from surface preparation to the restoration of various materials. Proper safety measures, including protective gear and proper ventilation, are crucial due to the potential hazards associated with the process. Often, a separate vacuum is attached to sandblasting cabinets to remove fine dust particles from the cabinet, leaving only clean and reusable abrasive. At Formula Powder Coat, we use a very fine sand that will not heat up the part or damage it, only to leave a clean, etched surface for powder coating.
