Chemical Stripping
Have parts with peeling powder coat or paint that you want to refinish yourself? We can chemically strip them down to bare metal. Our chemical stripper is effective on powder coat, paint, and anodized parts. We do not strip chrome.
What is chemical stripping?
Chemical stripping is a process used to remove paint, coatings, or finishes from surfaces by applying a chemical solution that break down and dissolve the material. The chemicals in this method vary depending on the type of coating to be removed. Typically, a stripping agent is submerged, brushed or sprayed onto the surface, allowing it to penetrate and weaken the bond between the substrate and the coating. This softened material can then be easily scraped or washed away. Chemical stripping is particularly useful for intricate or delicate surfaces. However, proper safety precautions, including the use of protective equipment and adequate ventilation, are essential due to the potentially hazardous nature of the chemicals involved in the process and should be held responsibly. At Formula Powder Coat, we use a submerging tank to remove old coatings, that is then neutralized in a rinse tank. Once neutralized, the chemical is no longer hazardous and ready for the next step in the powder coating process.
